Punjab: Bathinda police recover Rs 1.2 crore from man in bus

Bathinda police in Punjab recovered Rs 1.20 crore from a person travelling in a bus in Punjab's Doomwali village, officials said.

"During a nakabandi at Doomwali village, Bathinda Police (PS Sangat) intercepted a bus and recovered Rs 1,20,00,000 (One Crore Twenty Lakh Rupees) from an individual," Punjab police India posted on X on Thursday.

"The person in possession of the cash failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for carrying such a large sum," police said.

The cash has been handed over to the Income Tax authority for further necessary action, they added.

In another separate development, Tarn Taran police seized 30 kilograms of Ganja and Rs 50,00 in drug money on Thursday.

In a post on X, Punjab Police India said, "In a major success against drug smuggling, Tarn Taran Police apprehended a suspect and seized 30 Kg Charas (Ganja) and Rs 50,000 in drug money".

A case has been registered at Tarn Taran city police station and further investigation is underway, they added.

Earlier, BSF and Punjab Police, in a joint operation, busted a cross-border illegal weapons and drugs smuggling racket.

One person was arrested and 3.124 kg of heroin was seized by the Tarn Taran Police. They also recovered 1 pistol, 5 magazines, 111 rounds, 2 weighing scales and Rs 3 lakh, as per police.

DGP Punjab police had said in a post on X, "Tarn Taran Police in a joint operation with BSF busted a cross-border illegal weapons and drugs smuggling racket with arrest of 1 person and seizure of 3.124 Kg Heroin, one pistol, five magazines, 111 rounds, 2 Weighing scale and Rs 3 Lakh drug money."

According to the DGP of Punjab Police, drones were used to transport drugs from Pakistan across the border in the Tarn Taran area.

"Investigations ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages for more recoveries and arrests. Punjab Police is fully committed to maintain peace and harmony in the state," DGP had said. (ANI)
