Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan attacked Congress and Trinamool Congress on Thursday, accusing them of engaging in appeasement politics.

"Congress and TMC can't go through a single day without appeasement," Chouhan told a press conference.

Pointing out the Calcutta High Court verdict on Wednesday that cancelled all Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates issued in West Bengal after 2010, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the high court has rebuked the West Bengal government over the vote bank politics of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"Calcutta High Court has rebuked the West Bengal government over her (CM Mamata Banerjee) vote bank politics. The Calcutta HC has invalidated all OBC certificates issued by the West Bengal government after 2010 and has called them 'unconstitutional.' But CM Mamata Banerjee is saying that she won't accept this order, and this will not be implemented. Isn't it disrespectful to the Constitution? Is she above the Constitution? The CM that gives reservations based on religion has no right to be the CM for even one day," he said.

"Calcutta High Court has slapped the West Bengal government over her (Mamata Banerjee) vote bank politics. Calcutta HC, in its judgement, has said to invalidate all the OBC certificates issued after 2010 and has called it unconstitutional. But Mamata Banerjee is saying that she won't accept this order, and this will not be implemented. Isn't it disrespectful to the Constitution? Is she above the Constitution? The CM that gives reservations based on religion has no right to be the CM for even one day," he said.

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday cancelled all OBC certificates issued in West Bengal after 2010. The court has directed the West Bengal Backward Classes Commission to prepare a new list of OBCs in accordance with the 1993 Act.

Those on the OBC list before 2010 will remain. However, all OBC nominations after 2010 were cancelled. An estimated 5 lakh OBC certificates are set to be cancelled in light of the order.

The BJP leader also accused the Congress of being anti-OBC.

"Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi accepted a big truth. He said that the entire system is against the lower caste; I have seen it by being inside the system. The BJP has been saying for years that Congress is anti-backwards, but the truth always comes out. People have seen what Congress has done; they have not given the OBC commission constitutional status for years," Chouhan said. (ANI)
