Six Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employee Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) workers were injured and one died on Tuesday when a mound of earth caved in on them while they were digging a trench in Venkatraopet village of Rajanna Sircilla district.

All the injured were rushed to a local government hospital at Sircilla. The injured are undergoing treatment. A postmortem was conducted after one person was declared dead. The body was then handed over to the deceased's family.

"We are taking proper care of everyone. Two have fractured their legs. Three have minor injuries. They were treated and sent to the hospital. The one who died was a lady worker who died on the spot," said the Superintendent at the Sircilla government civil hospital, Dr Chandrashekar.
