Former Chhattisgarh CM Baghel visits injured labourers at hospital after Kawardha accident

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel visited the people injured in the Kawardha accident on Monday and expressed grief over the mishap that claimed the lives of 19 labourers in the district.

Speaking to ANI about the incident, Baghel said, "This is a very tragic incident; 19 people have died in this. These people were returning after plucking tendu leaves when this accident happened. We have met the injured in the hospital."

At least 19 labourers were killed near the village of Bahpani after a pickup truck fell into a ditch in the Kukdur police station area of Kawardha district on Monday.

The incident took place when 25 labourers, who were returning after collecting tendu leaves in a pickup truck, met with an accident and fell into a ditch.

Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for a speedy recovery for those injured in the Kawardha incident.

Taking to his official X handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "The road accident in Kawardha, Chhattisgarh is extremely painful. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this accident."

He added, "Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way."

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday also extended his condolences after the loss of lives in Kawardha accident.

In a post on X, CM Sai said, "The sad news is being received about the death of 18 villagers and injuries to 4 after a pickup overturned near Bahpani village of Kukdur police station area of Kabirdham district. Necessary instructions have been given to the district administration for better treatment of the injured. I pray to God for the peace of the departed souls and express my deepest condolences to their families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."

State Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao also expressed condolences and said that action will be taken after the investigation. (ANI)
