BJP MP and candidate from Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat, Arjun Singh, on Monday accused the TMC of preventing people from voting at a booth in the constituency.

"No one is being allowed to vote here. This means that ground has slipped from beneath the feet of TMC," he said at Ward no.15, Booth number 108 in Titagarh.

BJP's Arjun Singh is contesting against TMC's Partha Bhowmick and CPI (M)'s Debdut Ghosh for the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat.

Arjun Singh moved to the BJP before the 2019 election after being denied a ticket by the TMC. Notably, he switched sides many times. After winning the 2019 election from the Barrackpore seat on a BJP ticket he rejoined the TMC three years later. In the 2024 election, Singh was denied a ticket by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, so he rejoined the BJP.

In the 2019 elections, BJP's Arjun Singh won the seat, gathering 4,72,994 votes. Dinesh Trivedi from TMC got 4,58,137 votes.

The Barrackpore seat consists of seven assembly segments: Amdanga, Bijapur, Naihati, Bhatpara, Jagatdal, Noapara and Barrackpur.

Voting took place in seven constituencies in West Bengal in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Monday. The constituencies are Arambagh, Bangaon, Barrackpore, Howrah, Hooghly, Serampore, and Uluberia Lok Sabha seat.

Polling for the remaining seats will be held in the next two phases on May 25 and June 1. The counting of votes will be held on June 4. (ANI)
