The Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, flagged off the Drug-Free India campaign organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya from the Raj Bhavan on Monday during the ongoing fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election across the country.

In his address, Governor Shukla praised the efforts of the Brahma Kumaris Service Centre in Panthaghati, highlighting its dedication to drug de-addiction.

Emphasising the state's commitment, he noted, "Our entire governance system is associated with this campaign against drug addiction." He expressed particular concern about the rise in synthetic drug use and recommended that educational institutions across the state screen the Brahma Kumaris' de-addiction videos.

This campaign is being conducted jointly by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and Brahma Kumaris. Under this initiative, a 40-day campaign will be conducted in various regions of Shimla district to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

On this occasion, the Governor also inspected a specially prepared vehicle providing information on drug de-addiction.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Governor's Secretary, Rajesh Sharma.

Polling for all four Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held on June 1.

Voting for the fifth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024 began on Monday morning across 49 parliamentary constituencies spread over six states and two Union Territories (UTs) amid tight security and arrangements.

The Lok Sabha elections are being held across seven phases, from April 19 to June 1. The counting and the results will be declared on June 4.

The Narendra Modi-led BJP is seeking a third term in power, while the opposition INDIA bloc is aiming to wrest power by stopping the juggernaut.

According to the information available on the official website of Brahma Kumaris, it is officially known as 'Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya', a worldwide spiritual movement dedicated to personal transformation and world renewal.

Founded in 1937 in Hyderabad, Sindh (then a part of undivided India) by Prajapita Brahma, Brahma Kumaris has spread to over 110 countries on 5 continents of the world and has had an extensive impact on all sections of society.

It is working as an international NGO, associated with the United Nations Department of Public Relations. The organisation is committed to helping individuals transform themselves based on their understanding of their true spiritual identity, which transcends their mere material existence.

It supports the cultivation of a deep collective consciousness of peace and of the individual dignity of each soul. Being a women-led organisation, it is widely known as Brahma Kumaris. Even though the founding father of the organisation was fondly known as Prajapita Brahma, the first Administrative Head was Mateshwari Jagdamba, fondly known as Mamma. (ANI)
