West Bengal Police neutralise 22 crude bombs in Cooch Behar district

Amidst the Lok Sabha Elections of 2024, West Bengal Police on Thursday neutralised 22 crude bombs in Cooch Behar's Sitalkuchi area, an official said.

Last month, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including foreign-made pistols and revolvers, during searches in Sandeshkhali.

The recovery was made during searches carried out by the CBI teams in connection with a case related to violence against the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) officials.

The team recovered: three foreign-made revolvers, one Indian revolver, one Colt official police revolver, one foreign-made pistol, one country-made pistol, 120 09 mm bullets, 50 .45 calibre cartridges, 120 09 mm calibre cartridges, 50 .380 cartridges and eight .32 cartridges, the agency stated.

Besides this, many incriminating documents related to Sheikh Shahjahan were also recovered. Some items suspected to be country-made bombs have also been recovered which are being handled and disposed of by the teams from NSG.

West Bengal, which sends 42 MPs, to Parliament, is voting in all seven phases. Voting for phases one and two was held on April 19 and April 26, respectively. Polling for the remaining parliamentary constituencies will be conducted on May 4, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. The counting of votes will be done on June 4. (ANI)
