BSF foils cattle, sugar smuggling attempt; four arrested

In their ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the vigilant troops of Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya rescued 28 cattle and apprehended four people from the international border of South West Khasi Hills on Monday.

Acting on specific information, troops of the 193 Batallion of BSF Meghalaya, rescued 28 cattle loaded into two vehicles en route to the international border, meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh, officials said.

Upon inquiry, both the driver and the co-driver failed to produce any valid documents regarding the transportation of cattle, they said.

The seized cattle and apprehended persons were handed over to the police post in Dangar for further legal action, they added.

In another joint operation with the Meghalaya police, BSF successfully seized a huge quantity of sugar intended for smuggling into Bangladesh from the international border of the South Garo Hills.

According to officials, troops of 1 batallion of the BSF along with Meghalaya police successfully seized more than 16,000 kg of sugar, which was dumped in an abandoned house in the Jungle area near the international border.

The seized sugar was handed over to Rongra Police Station for further necessary action, they said. (ANI)
