Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the Modi government on Saturday at a rally in Kanpur Dehat and said that the BJP has realised that the people are voting to save the Constitution.

Akhilesh Yadav said, "The BJP has been flipped by the people and they are lagging behind. This is not '400 paar', it is '400 haar'. I have heard that they are not able to raise the slogan of '400 paar'. Now they are speaking of the Constitution and reservation. They have understood that the people are voting for saving the Constitution."

He said that SP had mentioned that it would provide free wheat and free data if the INDIA bloc came to power at the centre.

He further said, "After 12 years I have returned to Kannauj. We will work for the progress of the constituency. No progress is visible during the current BJP regime. BJP had only lied to the voters. In the last 10 years, the BJP has built an image speaking lies and plundering the resources of the state. Farmers should get the right MSP. We have mentioned in our manifesto that we will provide nourished wheat and free data."

He further said that the country can only progress if the farmers are happy.

"We will waive the loans of the poor people and the farmers," he added.

Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday filed his nomination from Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj Lok Sabha seat.

Earlier SP president Akhilesh Yadav released the party's manifesto, promising a caste-based census by 2025.

The party's 20-page vision document titled 'Hamara Adhikar', released at the SP headquarters here in the presence of senior party leaders, also promises to end the Agnipath scheme and introduce regular recruitment in the armed forces.

Akhilesh Yadav said that by 2025, all government vacancies of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes will be filled.

Voting on the Kannauj seat will be held in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election on May 13.

Notably, In the 2019 General elections, Samajwadi party Chief Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav lost to BJP MP Subrata Pathak in the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency.

As per the seat agreement between the Samajwadi Party and Congress in Uttar Pradesh, Congress is contesting on 17 seats and the Samajwadi Party has the remaining 63 seats in the electorally crucial state.

In the 2019 general elections, the BJP emerged triumphant, securing 62 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, supplemented by two seats clinched by its ally Apna Dal (S). Mayawati's BSP managed to secure 10 seats, while Akhilesh Yadav's SP garnered five. Conversely, the Congress party secured only one seat.

Akhilesh Yadav served as Lok Sabha MP from 2000-2012. He resigned from the Kannauj parliamentary seat in 2012 after he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency, which has been a stronghold of the Samajwadi party since 1999, was snatched away by the BJP in the 2019 General elections when BJP leader Subrata Pathak won against SP candidate Dimple Yadav by securing 563,087 votes. (ANI)
