Former cricketer Javagal Srinath cast his vote at a polling booth in Mysuru on Friday during polling for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections.
After casting his vote, the former pacer appealed people to come out and use their voting rights. "It's our right to come and vote; candidates work during promotions I am glad that people are coming out to vote. Till now, around 50 per cent polling has happened and until 6 o'clock, I hope more people will come to vote." When asked about low voting turnout in the first phase, he said, "I must say voting is must. You should come out and choose your leaders. This is basic and fundamental party of democracy." Cricketer Mohammad Shami cast his vote at a polling booth in Amroha. Speaking to the reporters, Shami said, "I just want to say that every citizen has the right to cast their votes and elect the government of their choice...It is a matter of pride for me that PM Modi took my name during his speech and praised me and my game..." Tripura is leading the voter turnout charts, as 68.92 per cent voting percentage was recorded in the State till 3 pm as per the data released by the Election Commission of India on Friday. Other States where higher voter turnout has been recorded are -- Manipur (68.48 per cent), Chhattisgarh (63.92 per cent), West Bengal (60.60 per cent), and Assam (60.32 per cent). So far, Maharashtra has registered the lowest voting percentage in phase 2 of Lok Sabha polls, with 43.01 per cent till 3 pm. Voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 began at 7 am on Friday across 88 Parliamentary Constituencies spread over 12 States and Union Territories. (ANI)
