Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) | April 25, 2024 11:02:49 PM IST
Chief electoral officer of Kerala Sanjay Kaul said they have made elaborate arrangements for the April 26 Lok Sabha election.

The second phase of the Lok Sabha elections will start at 7 AM on April 26 across 20 constituencies in Kerala with polling continuing until 6 PM.

Speaking with ANI, he said, "We have 25,231 polling booths which are ready to welcome all the voters tomorrow morning at 7 am. 70 per cent of the polling parties have reached the booths today... We have made elaborate arrangements for the comfort of the voters who come there.

"There will be an orderly queue management system. We will have volunteers managing the queues. There will be separate queues for elderly people. There is drinking water and toilet facilities," he added.

For our friends who are physically challenged, we have ramps on all the booths. We have wheelchairs, the Kerala CEO added.

"We expect it to be a little warm tomorrow, we have shaded areas wherever the booths do not have permanent shaded structures...," he added.

He said that police forces have been deployed to ensure smooth and peaceful voting.

"We are ready as far as security is concerned. Police forces also have been deployed... There are about 1700 vulnerable and critical booths spread across all the statistics in the state... Vulnerable and critical booths, we have special facilities... We have the cameras both inside and outside the booth... We have central parametric forces deployed...," he added.

In 2019, the Congress party registered victory on 19 out of the 20 seats while CPI-M could only win one seat. The BJP failed to open its account.

The first phase of polling for the 18th Lok Sabha elections was held on Friday. The polling was held in 108 parliamentary constituencies spread over 21 states and Union Territories.

The next round of voting will be held on April 26. The counting of votes and results will be declared on June 4.

The over month-long, high-octane public campaign for the April 26 Lok Sabha polls ended on Wednesday, with various political parties holding massive rallies and road shows across the state, marking its culmination.

Candidates wrapped up their final outdoor campaigning by touring major centres of the constituency, reaching out to voters, and reassuring their votes (ANI)
