Hitting back at former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad over his dynasty dig at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, senior party leader Pawan Khera on Thursday said the grand old party, the former was once a part of, 'nurtured an enemy'.

A former Congress leader, Union Minister and a long-time MP, Azad took a veiled dig at Rahul and National Conference leader and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, Omar Abdullah, earlier, labelling them as "spoon-fed kids" rather than serious politicians.

Azad shot off a resignation letter to then-Congress president Sonia Gandhi in August 2022, making a volley of accusations against the high command.

While not naming them, he claimed the two leaders did nothing of note on their own and owe their currencies as politicians to the legacy of the parties they represent.

"They have not made any personal sacrifice in life and are merely living off the political legacies left behind by towering figures such as (former PM) Indira Gandhi and (the first Jammu and Kashmir CM) Sheikh Abdullah. Neither of them did anything on their own," Azad said on Wednesday while addressing public meetings in the Sangaldan and Ukhral areas of the Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency.

Pawan Khera, in a post on X, hit back at Azad saying, "Waise dhudh to hamari party ne saanpon ko bhi pilaya (By the way, our party, too, nurtured enemies)."

Once considered close to the Gandhi family, Azad quit the Congress and resigned from all party posts in August 2022.

In a five-page letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi, Azad said the situation in the Congress has reached a point of 'no return'. (ANI)
