Six parliamentary seats in the state of Madhya Pradesh- Sidhi, Shahdol, Jabalpur, Mandla, Balaghat and Chhindwara - will go to the polls in the first phase of polling on April 19.

A total of 88 candidates, including seven women candidates, are in the fray for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections to be held on Friday in Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Thursday.

A total of 47 assembly constituencies and 13 districts are included in these six Lok Sabha seats. Of these 13 districts, 11 are completely included and some parts of two Katni and Narsinghpur districts are included.

A day before polling is to be conducted on the six seats, former Madhya Pradesh CM and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "People want to make PM Narendra Modi the PM for the third time...BJP will win all 29 seats including Chhindwara seat..."

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the first phase of polling of Lok Sabha elections on all the six seats, scheduled to take place tomorrow.

It is noteworthy that Nakul Nath, son of former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath is fighting again from the Chhindwara seat against BJP candidate Vivek Bunty Sahu, who had lost to Kamal Nath in the last two assembly polls.

The BJP already showed in the recently conducted assembly polls that it has an upper advantage in the Hindi heartland states. In the 2019 elections, Congress leader Nakul Nath got a total of 47.1 per cent of vote share whereas the defeated BJP candidate touched 44.1 per cent.

"Six parliamentary seats in Madhya Pradesh will undergo polling tomorrow in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. A total of 47 assembly constituencies and 13 districts are included in these six Lok Sabha seats. Of these 13 districts, 11 are completely included and some parts of two Katni and Narsinghpur districts are included," Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, Anupam Rajan said.

Notably, Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh will be conducted in four phases. The first phase of polling will be held on April 19, followed by April 26, May 7 and May 13. The votes will be counted on June 4.

Madhya Pradesh has a total of 29 Lok Sabha constituencies, making it the sixth-largest state in terms of parliamentary representation. Out of these, 10 seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates, while the remaining 19 are unreserved. (ANI)
