Madurai (Tamil Nadu) | April 10, 2024 12:28:31 AM IST
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did nothing for the DMK-ruled state in the last ten years and is now visiting the state to seek votes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

"The next Prime Minister will not be like Modi. Modi has done nothing for Tamilians in the last ten years. But now he has come to Tamil Nadu seeking votes. Prime Minister Modi did not come when Tuticorin district was affected by floods. Prime Minister Modi is not only deceiving Tamil Nadu, he is deceiving all the states where the opposition is ruling," Chief Minister Stalin said in Madurai.

"The vote you are calling for will not only elect the MP of your constituency but will lay the foundation for a Democracy to become the next Prime Minister of India," he added.

Stalin further said that the Prime Minister enjoys "imprisoning people who express their thoughts".

"What is Modi going to do to this country? He is dividing the country by sowing sectarianism in a united country. He enjoyed imprisoning leaders who spoke for the people. The people of Tamil Nadu will not accept such a person," he said.

Praising former Union Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, the Chief Minister said that he brought many projects not only to Tamil Nadu but also to India.

"Venkatesan in Madurai and Karti Chidambaram in Sivaganga are contesting on behalf of our alliance, so you should vote for them. P Chidambaram was elected Lok Sabha member seven times from the Sivaganga constituency. He brought many projects not only to Tamil Nadu but also to India. He helped the economic development of India. P Chidambaram has prepared the election manifesto of the Congress, which is the protagonist of this election," he said.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a roadshow in Tamil Nadu's Chennai, as a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party's campaign to gain a foothold in the southern states.

This was PM Modi's second roadshow in Tamil Nadu in a month.

Former Telangana Governor and BJP candidate from South Chennai, Tamilisai Soundararajan was also present.

On PM Modi's roadshow, BJP candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan said, "PM Modi's visit will definitely help us. People want him to become the Prime Miniter for the third time. Whenever he comes, the DMK is exposed. Lotus will bloom in Tamil Nadu."

The BJP has fielded former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's (DMK) Tamilachi Thangapandian in South Chennai.

The Prime Minister will be in Tamil Nadu for two days. He will be attending two public meetings in the state on Wednesday.Voting for all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu will be held in the first phase of the general elections on April 19.

In the 2019 general elections, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, comprising the Congress, VCK, MDMK, CPI, CPI(M), IUML, MMK, KMDK, TVK, AIFB, registered a landslide victory, winning 38 of the 39 seats in the state. (ANI)
