Bringing a cricketing reference to the Lok Sabha election campaign, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party played like a 'one-day international' while laying the foundation and now it is time to hit the boundaries for making India a developed nation.

Addressing a rally in Una, Himachal Pradesh, Thakur said, "In these two terms, PM Modi has laid a strong foundation for India for making it a developed country. We know IPL season is going on...In the last 10 years, PM Modi has played like one-day and now it is time to hit fours and sixes."

"Since a strong foundation is already laid, it is time to take India to new heights. We have to make India developed, secure and prosperous," he added.

He also slammed the Congress party over Abhishek Manu Singhvi's move to Himachal Pradesh High Court, challenging the 'Draw of Lots' rule in Rajya Sabha elections.

In February this year, Singhvi lost to BJP's Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya Sabha election in Himachal Pradesh. Though, both got equal votes with 34-34 each. But Mahajan won in the draw of lots in accordance with the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961.

In his petition, Singhvi challenged the fundamental question of winning and losing through the draw of lots.

Attacking the Congress party, the BJP leader told reporters, "Congress has lost the election and the BJP candidate won...Congress was able to secure 34 votes, their own 9 people (6 party legislators and 3 independents) voted against them. It's written in the law that if votes are equal, then it will take place due to the 'draw of lotteries'. It happened in front of him (Abhishek Manu Singhvi) only, and he signed also. If he thinks that he should move court, then he is free to do so."

The elections to the four Lok Sabha seats of Himachal Pradesh and bypolls to the six assembly constituencies that fell vacant with the disqualification of six rebel Congress MLAs and their eventual switch to the BJP will be held on June 1. (ANI)
