BJP MP and national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi slammed the Congress after one of his leaders made a controversial remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged Congress of losing mental balance as people's love and support is keeps on growing for PM Modi.

Earlier, Congress leader Charan Das Mahant triggered a controversy at a rally held on Tuesday at Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh when he said that they needed someone who could hold a stick and confront PM Narendra Modi.

"It is expected that after being opposed by the people and ever-increasing support and affection towards PM Modi, opposition leaders mainly Congress seem to have lost their mental balance. Chhattisgarh LoP has once again used derogatory language for PM Modi which has been a habit of Congress," Sudanshu Trivedi said.

"Such language is saddening in democracy... I want to ask, 'Ye Mohabbat Ki Dukaan Se Kon Kon Se Farmaan Hai?'. Congress claims to hold exclusive copyright and be from the tradition of Gandhi, did Gandhi use to have a stick for this reason? And this not just a slip of tongue but a statement made deliberately and this is all happening from 2014 elections, he added.

Mahant was speaking in support of former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, the party's Lok Sabha candidate. Mahant, the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, called for support for Baghel's victory in the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat, hailing him as a champion of women and farmers.

During his speech in the local dialect, Mahant urged the public to ensure Baghel's success for their future well-being. ''We need a protector who can stand up against Narendra Modi, and your MP (referring to Baghel) is that person. We want someone who can hold a stick and confront Narendra Modi'', he said. These remarks stirred controversy, drawing a swift response from the ruling BJP.

Sudhanshu Trivedi also recalled a statement made by Congress leader Imran Masood, who is also a Congress candidate from Saharanpur Lok Sabha seat for this Lok Sabha poll, Trivedi said "In the 2014 election, Imran Masood has said cut Modi in pieces. I want to ask Congress party that to what extent they are willing to stoop down," said Masood.

Elections in the 11 parliamentary constituencies of Chhattisgarh will take place in three phases on April 19, 26 and May 7. The counting of votes will be done on June 4. The BJP, which has a stronghold in Chhattisgarh, won 9 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha, while the Indian National Congress (INC) was limited to only 2 seats.

In the 2014 election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 10 seats, while the INC only managed to win one seat. (ANI)
