Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) | March 30, 2024 11:57:57 PM IST
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar launched a crowdsourcing programme on Saturday and said that this election is not merely a contest but a mission to propel Thiruvananthapuram forward, enabling it to reap the benefits of Prime Minister Modi's governance schemes.

Rajeev Chandrashekhar said, "It's not just an election for me but a mission where I can put Thiruvananthapuram at a path that it can move forward and start gaining benefits of schemes of PM Modi's governance. This election is about the performance of the sitting MP and about which govt has delivered. Opposition parties don't want to discuss performance, the economy but everything else."

He further said that the mandate would be extremely inclusive and people belonging to all age group, gender or community would be empowered to give their suggestions, that would then become part of the vision for the city.

"This vision will bring change to everybody's life. It will bring investments, create jobs. It will be a holistic vision. Today was the launch of the website. People can give their written suggestions. This programme will run until April 11 and then be compiled and released as a vision for the future of Thiruvananthapuram," he added.

He said that this election is about the performance of the sitting MP, to gauge which government has delivered what to the people.

"It is choice of the voter to decide whether they wish to vote for Congress, which has done very little in the last 15 years or the CPI, CPM under which the government has to borrow to pay pensions and salaries or whether they want to support a BJP candidate under the Modi government who has taken the country forward. The opposition party does not want to discuss the economy; they only want to create fear among the minorities," he added.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar is BJP's candidature from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram constituency for the Lok Sabha polls.

He has been fielded against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, which is being considered significant as BJP in the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 drew a blank in Kerala.

This is the first time that Chandrashekhar has been fielded for the Lok Sabha polls. He also served as a national spokesperson for the BJP.

For the 2024 Lok Sabha election, both the BJP and the Left have put up strong candidates against Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram constituency, where he won three times consecutively.

Kerala will hold elections in a single phase on April 26 with 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

The parliamentary elections for the 543 constituencies will be conducted in seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4. (ANI)
