After joining the Congress today, former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Tejaswini Gowda exuded confidence that the grand old party will emerge once again, and bounce back.

"I believe in political values and political struggles. In India, we fought for freedom and democracy to give opportunities to the common people in politics. Today, there is no such opportunity in the BJP. We want to save the constitutional democracy. Congress is going to emerge once again. It will bounce back," she said.

She further asserted that Congress is the best and historical party.

"I am from the media background. We used to analyse things. But today, I would like to strengthen the organisation from ground zero to every constituency," Gowda added.

Tejaswini Gowda who was a Congress MP between 2004 and 2009 but she crossed over to the BJP in 2014.

Meanwhile, Congress released its ninth list of five candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Friday. The party has announced three candidates for Karnataka and two for Rajasthan.

The grand old party has fielded CP Joshi from Rajasthan's Bhilwara and Damodar Gurjar is set to contest polls from Rajasthan's Rajsamand.

The party has fielded E Thukaram from Karnataka's Bellary, Sunil Bose from Chamarajanagar-SC and Raksha Ramaiah from Chikkballapur.

Karnataka, which has 28 Lok Sabha seats, will vote in two phases on April 26 and May 7.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress and JD-S fought together against the BJP and the combine was decimated.

The BJP had won a record 25 seats; Congress and JD-S won just one seat each. The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will be held in seven phases, starting on April 19. The counting of votes is on June 4. (ANI)
