Bhartiya Janata party General Secretary Dushyant Kumar on Sunday reacted strongly to the statement made by the AAP leader Atishi that 'Kejriwal will run the government from jail', stating that "he is a leader of a gang and only gangs run from jail".

BJP General Secretary Dushyant Kumar while speaking to ANI on Sunday, said, "It is unfortunate that a Chief Minister is inside the jail and because of his stubbornness he wants to run the ministry from there. To date, this has not happened. This is an insult to the democracy. All proofs are against him and in spite of that he is very stubborn due to which he has to face these results. He (Arvind Kejriwal) is the leader of a gang. Only thieves run gangs from jail," he said.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate on Friday for seven days i.e., till March 28, a day after he was arrested by the probe agency in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case linked to a money laundering case.

AAP leader Atishi earlier, while speaking to the media, said, "We have always said that Arvind Kejriwal will run the govt from jail. He will remain the CM of Delhi. We have filed a case in the Supreme Court. Our lawyers are reaching SC. We will demand SC have an urgent hearing tonight."

Meanwhile, legal luminaries opined that Arvind Kejriwal may face difficulties in discharging his duties from jail; however, the law does not prohibit anyone from heading the government from prison.

Speaking to ANI on the practical difficulties the chief minister will face while discharging his duties from the prison, constitutional expert PDT Achary explained that Kejriwal, as a prisoner inside the Tihar Jail, will face various restrictions.

"Kejriwal's arrest does not change his status as Chief Minister," Achary said, adding, "whether he can perform his function as Chief Minister smoothly is subjected to a jail manual," he said.

"If a jail manual permits such things, then it is ok; otherwise, he has to get permission from the court and then the court has to give a specific direction to jail officials," he added. (ANI)
