Bharatiya Janata Party IT cell head Amit Malviya slammed Trinamool Congress's Lok Sabha candidate from Malda North seat, Prasun Banerjee, over his remarks on the central forces and the poll body and said he exemplifies all that is wrong with the West Bengal police.

"Prasun, who quit IPS and joined TMC the next day to contest LS, is now intimidating the ECI. One can only imagine what he did as a police officer! He exemplifies all that is wrong with the WB Police," said Malviya.

The BJP IT cell head posted a video of Prasun Banerjee making remarks on paramilitary forces and the Election Commission.

Taking to his social media handle on Sunday, Malviya posted on X, "Prasun Bandyopadhyay, the 'colourful' TMC candidate from Uttar Malda and former police officer, warns central forces and the Election Commission."

As per the post, Banerjee said, "I am telling all the BSF and paramilitary to stay within the law. We will also stay within the law. Let the elections be free and fair. If the paramilitary tries to intimidate, I am here (main hoon na)."

Addressing a public program, Bandyopadhyay further said, "The Election Commission should be kept seated in schools. Give them water. Don't neglect them. Just say Prasun Bandyopadhyay has come to play, read the post.

"There is no use of boots, AK-47s, or SLRs. Just say I am calling Prasun Bandyopadhyay. He is entering in half an hour. He will understand all the laws. The observer will understand everything," added the post.

"Prasun, who quit IPS and joined TMC the next day to contest LS, is now intimidating the ECI. One can only imagine what he did as a police officer! He exemplifies all that is wrong with WB Police," the post stated.

This comes after Prasun Banerjee triggered a controversy when he warned the central forces and the Election Commission not to "intimidate" anyone during elections.

Prasun Banerjee is among the 42 Lok Sabha candidates fielded by the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.

Earlier this month, Prasun Banerjee took voluntary retirement from IPS. He was the Inspector General of Police, Raiganj Range. (ANI)
