Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction leader Sanjay Raut claimed that without the leadership of the Congress, the country would not have achieved independence and made progress in science and technology.

Giving credit to the Congress for keeping the country united, the Rajya Sabha MP said, "If there was no Congress, the country would not have gotten independence, the country would not have gotten leadership, & we would not have made progress in science and technology...There are a lot of such things that the BJP will never understand because they do not think for the country. They only think about the businessmen."

He was responding to queries about the BJP releasing a book, "Congress Nahi Hoti Tou Kya Hota," on the completion of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Mumbai's Dharavi on Saturday.

The remarks came during an interaction with the media in Mumbai on a day when the INDIA Alliance is scheduled to hold a mega rally today at Mumbai's Shivaji Park, scheduled at 5 pm.

"Without the Congress, Pakistan would not have been disintegrated into two parts. The country would not have remained united," he said.

Lashing out at the BJP, Raut said, "Those who have a king, their subjects suffer from diseases. The BJP is making the country poor," Raut alleged.

"If there had been no BJP, there would not have been other things. There would have been no riots in the country, the rupee of the country would have been strong, and the debt would have been less. There would have been no scams from Rafale to the electoral bond," Raut alleged.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the party's general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and actor Swara Bhaskar held the 'Jan Nyay Padyatra' from Mani Bhavan Sangrahalaya in Mumbai on Sunday.

The yatra covered the distance from Mani Bhavan to August Kranti Maidan.

Rahul Gandhi also paid floral tribute at the Gandhi Smarak Stambh upon reaching the Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. (ANI)
