Over the speculations of his joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), TMC MP from Barrackpore, Arjun Singh on Tuesday said time will tell whether he will go back to the BJP or not.

When asked to clarify rumours that he is going to leave the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and join BJP again, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the country, Singh said, "Politicians are always in touch with a lot of people, be it ruling party or opposition. I have come from that party (BJP) itself. We will see what happens next."

He further said that he would not hide anything from anyone and added, "I have never played hide and seek even during my childhood days."

On being asked about whether he is going to contest in the upcoming general elections, he clarified, "I will fight from Barrackpore."

Meanwhile, TMC on Sunday announced 42 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, fielding expelled Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra from Krishnanagar.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, announced the TMC candidates at a show of strength in the heart of Kolkata on Sunday.

As expected, Abhishek Banerjee is on the TMC ticket from Diamond Harbour while former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan has been fielded from Behrampore. He will be pitted against Congress heavyweight Adhir Chowdhury.

Mahua was expelled as a Lok Sabha MP on December 8 following the report by the Parliamentary Ethics Panel in connection with the alleged 'cash-for-query' case.

The announcement of candidates also put rest all lingering hopes of a seat-sharing pact with the Congress in the state. However, despite not allying with Congress, the TMC continues to be an ally of the grand old party in the INDIA bloc. (ANI)
