Following the death of a student of the Government Veterinary College at Pookode in Kerala's Wayanad, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar on Friday lashed out at the state government led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) asking it to "leave children out of their violent politics".

"This tragic, senseless and horrible killing of a young student in the Wayanad constituency of Kerala is really something that makes all of us hang our heads in shame. We are living in a modern age, we are no longer in medieval ages where violence is such an easy, normal task," Chandrashekhar said while speaking to ANI.

The Union Minister further targeted the Waynad MP Rahul Gandhi and said, "This happens in a constituency where Rahul Gandhi, the so-called leader of the Congress Party INDI alliance, is going around the country saying Bharat Jodo Yatra... Leave children out of your violent politics. Let them prosper, let them study, let them go ahead."

"This young student, who should have been looking at his future with hopefulness, positivity, pursuing many opportunities for education, instead tortured and killed by goons of the communist party," he added.

Twenty-year-old JS Sidhharth was found hanging in his hostel room on February 18, the police said.

The police had initially started an investigation into a case of unnatural death.

Sidhharth's family claimed that the accused are part of the Student Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) and accused the college of protecting the accused.

It is a case of murder and not suicide, Siddharth's relative told reporters on Thursday, alleging that Sidhharth was brutally attacked by a group of students inside the campus.

Meanwhile, the Kerala police arrested six people in connection with the death of the student.

According to the police, six people were arrested on February 29 and a seventh person has been taken into custody from Palakkad for questioning today. (ANI)
