Supporting Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar's remark that Mughal Emperor Akbar was a "rapist," BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya said on Thursday that in academics, Mughal rulers should not be mentioned.

"We all know the history of the Mughals. Son threw Father in jail and ruled...They were tyrants. How can we see them as great people? They used to loot and practice adultery," Balmukund Acharya told ANI.

"Mention of such tyrants in academics and places named after them, I find it wrong. In academics, we should learn about our culture and our ancestors' history. We are not in support of such tyrants, and we should not discuss them," he added.

Rajasthan School Education Minister Madan Dilawar said on Tuesday that Mughal Emperor Akbar was a "rapist," adding that "to take his name in India is a sin."

Speaking on a review of the curriculum in the state, Dilawar told ANI, "When we were students, we read that Akbar was great. I have also read that Akbar was great, but he used to set up a'meena bazaar', handpicked beautiful girls and women, and raped them. First of all, Akbar was an invader and had no connection with the people of our country. How can a rapist be great? He was a rapist; taking his name in India is a sin."

Dilawar also said earlier this week that a committee would assess current textbooks, revised by the previous Congress government in the state, "with ill intention." He said that the goal of the BJP government in the state is to ensure that textbooks refrain from demeaning national heroes or fostering a sense of inferiority among students. If the committee identifies controversial content, appropriate action will be taken, he said. (ANI)
