Bharuch (Gujarat) | February 24, 2024 3:55:32 PM IST
Chaitar Vasava, the Aam Adami Party candidate from Gujarat's Bharuch seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has expressed his gratitude to the party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, saying that the polls would hold a 'huge responsibility' for him.

"Today in the INDIA bloc, the AAP and Congress alliance has taken place. The declaration has been made that in Gujarat the Bharuch seat has been given to me. I am glad with that announcement. I express my gratitude to Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann and others for providing this huge responsibility," Vasava said.

He further said that the party leaders of the state would set the strategy with Congress workers soon in view of the upcoming elections.

"Our motive is to oust BJP from the Bharuch constituency and for that, we will set the strategy with Congress workers soon..." he said.

However, the AAP Candidate may find it tough to get absolute support from the Congress cadre in Bharuch with ticket aspirant Faisal Patel voicing his displeasure at the arrangement. Faisal is the son of late Ahmed Patel who was an MP from Bharuch in 1977, 1980 and 1984. Since 1989 the BJP has held on to this seat.

"My party workers and I are not happy and we wanted this decision to not be taken but if the high command wants, we will follow it - both party workers and I. I am going to Congress and I will speak with the high command once again. There is a lot of time to file nomination as well as for elections. Gandhi family is my family too, I am of the firm belief that they will understand the emotions of Patel family attached to this seat," Faisal Patel said.

According to the compromise reached by the AAP and the Congress, in Gujarat of the 26 parliamentary seats the Congress will contest 24 seats, while the remaining 2--Bharuch and Bhavyanagar are in the AAP's kitty.

After weeks of suspense and wrangling over the allotment of seats in the national capital ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, INDIA partners AAP and Congress on Saturday announced a seat-sharing pact for Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Chandigarh and Goa.

As part of the agreement reached between the ruling party in Delhi and the Congress will contest 3 of the 7 Lok Sabha seats in the national capital while the AAP will field candidates in the remaining 4 constituencies.

The sealing of the deal - after a period of hectic negotiations, mixed signals and public display of disagreement is a big step for the Opposition as it prepares to take on the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

Speaking on AAP-Congress seat sharing, AAP MP Sandeep Pathak said, "The alliance has been formed seeing the interest of the country. Congress will contest some seats while AAP will contest some. But the fact remains that we will fight the elections together and the country will win."

AAP leader Gopal Italia said that the alliance of the Congress and Arvind Kejriwal's party will 'rout the dictatorship' of the BJP.

"AAP and Congress have come together to save the country from those who did the loot of votes in front of the camera in Chandigarh mayor polls... I thank Congress party workers, there is immense happiness among the party cadres. Together we will rout this dictatorship..." he said.

Congress leader Deepak Babariya said that the seat share pact is a 'win-win' situation for both parties.

"A consensus has been arrived at between the two parties and it is a win-win situation for both. We will sweep the elections in all districts... Rahul Gandhi is on a Nyay Yatra and is voicing the rights of all sections of society... Let people of the country think about change and let the people of the country vote in large numbers... They show the vote-slip in ballot box to the voter for seven seconds, but don't show who the vote went to. They should give the slip in the hands of the voter... The actions of this government can be compared to a roadside goon..." Babariya said. (ANI)
