After Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar was reportedly shot dead on Thursday by unidentified assailants in Mumbai, party leader Sanjay Raut demanded resignation from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

In a post on 'X', Raut wrote, "Goon rule in Maharashtra! Morish Narohna, who shot Abhishek Ghosalkar four days ago, was at the bungalow. The Chief Minister met him."

"Morrish was invited to join the Shinde Sena! Fadnavis is a complete failure as Home Minister! Resign!" he added.

Ghosalkar was reportedly shot at by unidentified people in the Dahisar area of Mumbai. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to gunshot injuries.

The incident, meanwhile, has triggered sharp reactions from several opposition leaders in the state.

Congress leader Sachin Sawant took to 'X' and wrote, "The death of former corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar, son of Vinod Ghosalkar, is shocking. The manner in which he was killed is horrific. Is there law and order in the state? This question is getting bigger."

"The decline of Maharashtra from all sides is sad. May God give strength to Vinodji and his family to recover from this crisis caused by Abhishek's passing at a very young age. A touching tribute to Abhishek!" he added.

Notably, this is the second such incident in January. Earlier, BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad allegedly opened fire at Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) faction leader Mahesh Gaikwad at Hill Line Police Station in Ulhasnagar, triggering sharp reactions from the opposition leaders.

The BJP MLA is currently in judicial custody.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders, meanwhile, put the state government on the dock and raised questions about the incident.

State Congress chief Nana Patole said that the incident marks the beginning of 'Jungle Raj' in the state.

"There is no rule of law in Maharashtra. Law and order have utterly collapsed in the state. Consistent firing by the MLAs of the ruling party marks the beginning of 'Jungle Raj," Patole said while speaking to ANI. (ANI)
