Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday accused the Modi-led government of neglecting the issue of unemployment and said that it is the "biggest issue" in the country.

Speaking during the motion of thanks on the President's address, Kharge said that the BJP doesn't understand anything as more than 30 lakh government posts are vacant in the country.

"You are finishing the public sectors. The public sector is the most important for the reserved class whether it is SC, ST, OBC or it is Economical Weaker Section. The way public sectors are finishing, the jobs are also finishing. Today, about 30 lakh government posts are vacant, but the Modi government is ignoring them," the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said.

He further suggested the government pay attention to the issue of unemployment terming it as a "biggest issue."

"In AIIMS there are around 41 per cent vacancies, In 2o hospitals there is a shortage of staff. You (government) say that you have built hospitals and all but I want to ask why are you not providing these things where there is need," he said.

He further mentioned 'Agneepath Yojana' and said that without consulting anyone, PM Modi implemented this scheme in the Air Force and Navy.

"Recently General MM Naravane ji told that in 'Agneepath Yojana' 75 per cent people were to be taken and 25 per cent people were to be released. But today the situation has turned upside down. Today in this scheme 25 per cent retention and 75 per cent release are being done. At the same time, without consulting anyone, PM Modi implemented this scheme in the Air Force and Navy," he added.

He further said that today the prices of tomato, onion, milk, flour, rice, pigeon peas... all have doubled. "But the Modi government never speaks on inflation."

"Modi government had promised to double the income of farmers and increase MSP. But today the annual income of farmers has declined by 1.5 per cent. In the last 5 years, more than Rs 1 lakh crore of agriculture budget has been surrendered," he added. (ANI)
