Calling the 'Garibi Hatao' (Remove Poverty) slogan a 'Jumla' (false promise), which was given by Congress in 1971, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Monday said that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who actually made efforts to remove poverty in the country, adding that previous Congress governments only sought votes in the name of the slogans for poor sections.

Addressing the public at a Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra event in Banswara, the Rajasthan Chief Minister said, "In the name of the poor, so many of their governments asked for votes from you (people). They raised the slogan 'Garibi Hatao', but their schemes never reached poor people. They kept saying they would eliminate poverty every year, but after 2014, it was PM Narendra Modi who actually did it. He took each of our schemes to the very end."

Rajasthan Chief Minister also stated that Prime Minister Modi also put an end to the bribery culture in the nation.

"Whenever any scheme came in the past, there was a cut fixed at many levels. That cut culture was stopped by Prime Minister Modi," he said.

Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra is being undertaken across the country to attain saturation of flagship schemes of the government by ensuring that the benefits of these schemes reach all targeted beneficiaries in a time-bound manner.

The campaign is being taken up by adopting a whole-government approach with the active involvement of various ministries and departments of the Government of India and state Governments.

Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that the 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra' is 'yatra' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guarantee and the caravan of development will continue to take the benefits of the Centre's welfare schemes to the last person in society.

CM Yadav made the remark during the interaction with the beneficiaries of Gwalior and Sagar districts in the Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra through video conferencing (VC) in Mantralaya in Bhopal last week. (ANI)
