Guwahati Airport handles about 5.6 million passengers in 2023: Airport Authority

The Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati handled around 5.6 million passengers in 2023, Guwahati Airport Authority said.

Among them, there were about 2.9 million arriving passengers and about 2.7 million were departing passengers.

In a press statement, the Guwahati Airport Authority said that, in 2022, the figure was about 4.6 million.

Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Baruah said, "We are happy that in the recent calendar year 2023, we have exceeded the previous year's passengers number by 10 lakh. 17 per cent is the growth. One of the highest in the country. We are happy because we could handle this volume in a terminal that has less than half the passenger handling capacity. We are waiting eagerly to commission the new terminal this year that has double capacity than our current demand. We have Jaipur, Bhubaneswar and Bangkok connectivity this year and working on a few more domestic and international destinations this year."

Meanwhile, in 2023, Guwahati Airport handled about 46,600 aircraft. Among them, about 23,300 arrived and about 23,300 were departed numbers. In 2022, the number was about 41,000.

In 2023, the new domestic connectivity's were Jaipur and Bhubaneswar. On the other hand, the only new International connectivity is in Bangkok.

During 2023, the highest number of passengers in a single day was 19290 on December 24, 2023. (ANI)
