Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday said that the state government is committed to ensuring swift and thorough investigations into the incident wherein four people were shot dead by armed men in Thoubal district's Lilong area.

Singh also visited the family of the deceased and offered his condolences and sympathy to the family members.

"Visited the families of the deceased persons of the incident that happened yesterday at Lilong to offer my heartfelt condolences and express my sympathy during this difficult time," Manipur CM said in a post on X.

He further said that his government is committed to bringing those responsible to justice.

"We stand united as a community, and our Government is committed to ensuring swift and thorough investigations to bring those responsible to justice," he added.

On January 1 evening at around 7:30 pm, some unidentified gunmen arrived at Lilong Chingjao Village in Manipur's Thoubal district and opened fire on unarmed villagers.

As per the officials, as many as four people were killed in the incident while several other villagers sustained injuries.

The angry villagers burnt down vehicles when the unidentified armed miscreants came to their village.

The Manipur government imposed a curfew across the state's valley districts after the incident.

"Due to developing law and order conditions in the district and to prevent any untoward incidents and loss of life and property, and further as a precautionary measure, the curfew relaxation order dated December 31 stands cancelled and a full curfew is imposed in all areas of Imphal West district with immediate effect," said an order issued by the districts magistrate.
