CM Dhami flags off door-to-door vehicles for waste management in Dehradun

He also released a song based on segregation.

The CM said that the availability of these vehicles will greatly boost the municipal corporation in its waste management efforts. He said that the state government is continuously working towards cleanliness in the state.

"We all have to contribute to the Swachh Bharat Mission. Continuous efforts are being made for a clean and beautiful Dehradun. The public awareness about cleanliness has also grown by leaps and bounds," CM Dhami said.

He said that awareness campaigns regarding cleanliness should be run continuously.

The 58 door-to-door vehicles flagged off by the CM will be used for waste management work from seven assembly constituencies of Municipal Corporation Dehradun, Rajpur, Raipur, Doiwala, Dharampur, Sahaspur, Mussoorie and Dehradun Cantt area.

To boost the system of door-to-door garbage collection, these 58 vehicles have been purchased by the municipal corporation under the Special Assistance Scheme at a combined cost of Rs 3.98 crore.

To accelerate the efforts towards achieving universal sanitation coverage and focus on sanitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014.

It is the country's largest cleanliness drive to date, with three million government employees and students from all parts participating in campaigns across 4,041 cities, towns and rural areas.

Prime Minister Modi has called the campaign 'Satyagraha se Swachhagraha', drawing majorly from Mahatma Gandhi's Champaran Satyagraha launched on April 10, 1917.

The mission has two thrusts: Swachh Bharat Mission ('gramin' or 'rural'), which operates under the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Swachh Bharat Mission ('urban'), which operates under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The Centre, in February 2020, approved Phase-II of the SBM-G with a total outlay of Rs. 1,40,881 crores to focus on the sustainability of the ODF status and to cover the villages with Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) that would transform villages from ODF to ODF Plus by 2024-25. (ANI)
