In a setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Haryana, senior party leader Nirmal Singh and his daughter and party's Haryana unit vice president Chitra Sarwara quit the party citing "personal reasons".

In a letter to the AAP's Haryana in charge, Sushil Gupta, Nirmal Singh wrote, "Due to personal reasons, I will be unable to continue ahead as a member of the Aam Aadmi Party team. Kindly accept my resignation from primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party and all positions."

"Through our paths ahead will separate, I believe the ends will remain the same- to make a positive difference to our nation and its people," read the letter.

The father-daughter duo is likely to jump ship to the Congress party.

Earlier this year, Singh was appointed as the party's National Joint Secretary.

The party has suffered back a major setback in Haryana for it is eyeing the coming assembly polls and the Lok Sabha elections.

In the previous state assembly polls in 2019, the vote share of the party stood at 0.48% which was less than that of 'NOTA' (None of the Above), which was 0.53%. (ANI)
