Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi said that only 11 crore bank accounts were opened since independence when the Congress was in power the majority of times whereas 52 crore bank accounts were opened within just four months of the Modi government in 2014.

"During whose time no work was done on subjects like social justice. The biggest injustice that has happened to the people of the country is that till 2014, when majority of time Congress party was in power, only 11 crore people had bank accounts in the country with a population of 120 crore. In such a situation, when Narendra Modi became PM, 52 crore bank accounts were opened within just 4 months. We provide tools, whereas they (Congress) provide toolkits." she said.

Lekhi said this while after participating in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra in New Delhi on Wednesday.

"In today's digital India, people have access to mobile banking but during their (Congress) time, only they had personalized phone banking services," she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the beneficiaries of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra via video conferencing on Wednesday.

Thousands of beneficiaries of Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra from across the country joined the event. The programme was also graced by Union Ministers, MPs, MLAs and local-level representatives.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, PM Modi said that the campaign, launched to attain saturation of flagship schemes of the Centre, has reached lakhs of villages.

"Viksit Bharat Yatra is reaching in far-off places and connecting people. I want to thank the people of the country, especially women for making this program a huge success. Viksit Bharat Yatra started around 50 days ago, but it has already reached lakhs of villages," he said.

The Prime Minister said that after the Viksit Bharat Yatra was started, 4.5 lakh new applications have been received for the Ujjwala Gas connection. "Over one crore Aayushmaan cards have been distributed to the people of the country. Health check-ups of around 1.25 crore people have been done," he added. (ANI)
