More than 13 crore tourists visited Varanasi in last two years: UP Govt

The total number of people visiting Varanasi in the last two years has gone up to more than 13 crores, according to the data revealed by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department on Tuesday.

The Tourism Department's figures have revealed more than 5.38 crore tourists visited Kashi till December 2 this year.

According to the data, in 2023, the highest number of 97,22,206 tourists arrived in Varanasi in August, followed by 72,62,891 in July. The tourists' flow to Varanasi was 44,29,590 in January, 42,67,858 tourists in April, 41,34,807 in February, 37,81,060 tourists in March, 32,25,476 in May, 36,96,346 in June, 38,97,844 in September, 42,55,674 in October and 48,26,776 in November.

As per the data revealed, more than 97 lakh tourists visited Varanasi in August.

"Varanasi has been witnessing rapid development in the recent past, and it is best explained through the significant rise in the number of tourists to the temple city," the report stated.

The data further mentioned that the number of tourists coming to Uttar Pradesh has increased rapidly. Out of 5 crore, 38 lakh tourists that visited Varanasi till December 2 this year, the number of Indian tourists was around 5 crore 37 lakh 87 thousand while the number of foreign tourists exceeded 13,700. In the meantime, the tourists' flow to Varanasi continues to rise.

"The increase in tourist flow has also created multiple avenues of employment in the city while boosting trade and business," the report read. (ANI)
