Assam Rifles recover Marijuana worth over Rs 10 lakh, arrest two Myanmar nationals

In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Assam Rifles and the Excise and Narcotics Department recovered Marijuana worth Rs. 10.73 lakh in the general area of Zote in Assam's Champhai district and arrested two Myanmar nationals, said an official statement by the Assam Rifles on Friday.

Marijuana is a kind of drug extracted from the Cannabis plant.

"In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Assam Rifles recovered Marijuana worth Rs. 10.73 lakh in the general area of Zote, Champhai on 12 Dec 2023 and apprehended two Myanmar nationals", read the official statement.

"During the operation marijuana worth 10.73 lakh was recovered hidden inside three black colour polythene bags concealed in a white colour sand bag and a black colour cloth bag in Gen Area Zote", it added.

The Marijuana was being brought from Darkhai, Myanmar to the Indian side, it further said.

The accused have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department of Champhai for further legal proceedings. More details are awaited. (ANI)
