Retired judge Sunil Shukre was appointed as the chairman of the state Backward Class Commission on Tuesday.

Shukre has been appointed by the state government after the resignation of State Backward Class Commission Chairman Anand Niragude.

Apart from Shukre, three members have also been appointed. Om Prakash Jadhav, Maruti Shingare, and Machhindranath Tambe have been appointed as members.

The State Commission for the Backward Class is established to look into matters such as including or excluding a particular caste in sections like VJNT, OBC and SBC. The main objective of this commission is to conduct an extensive study regarding the inclusion/exclusion of a caste as well as its grievances and submit the report to the state government of Maharashtra.
