Day after calling Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee a "queen of thieves", in light of his suspension from the Assembly over alleged offensive remarks directed at the Speaker, West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday said those labelling Prime Minister Narendra Modi as 'thief' shall not be spared.

He was referring to the protest by the ruling TMC members, led by Mamata, outside the Assembly on Wednesday.

To chants of 'chor, chor' directed at the BJP and PM Modi, the BJP members, led by Adhikari, countered with the same slur against the ruling party.

Speaking to ANI before leaving the Assembly on Thursday, the Leader of the Opposition said, "These thieves (TMC leaders) are calling themselves nationalists and patriots. Should we spare them for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a thief? Mamata is the queen of thieves."

On the FIR registered against 12 BJP MLAs, Adhikari said, "We will approach the high court, seeking quashing of the FIR. This is a frivolous complaint with no basis in fact."

Earlier in the day, the LoP led a protest against the ruling Trinamool Congress on the premises of the state legislative assembly.

Adhikari, along with 12 BJP MLAs, sat in protest on the premises of the Assembly, right in the face of a counter-protest by the TMC members.

The protesting BJP members beat utensils to demonstrate against the ruling TMC, which, too, held a protest against the saffron party.

Adhikari was suspended earlier, on Wednesday, for allegedly making "objectionable remarks" against Speaker Biman Banerjee. (ANI)
