After the Calcutta High Court granted permission to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold a mega rally in Kolkata, Trinamool Congress (TMC) vice president Jay Prakash Majumdar said that is a "poor attempt" to "duplicate" the path or affairs of the TMC.

"Let them replicate or duplicate Trinamool Congress meeting on July 21. It is a very poor attempt to duplicate the path or affairs of TMC. Let them do it. We don't have any problem politically," Majumdar said while speaking to ANI on Saturday.

The Calcutta High Court on Friday permitted the BJP to hold a rally on November 29 near Victoria House at Esplanade, the same place in central Kolkata where the ruling Trinamool Congress holds its annual 'Shaheed Divas (Martyrs' Day)' rally on July 21.

The TMC vice president said that July 21 is one of the most important dates in the annuls of Bengal's history.

"Let us not forget that July 21 is one of the most important dates in the annals of Bengal history and public movement. People gave their lives to enforce their democracy in India. That is one of the most important dates, not only for Bengal but also for India," Majumdar said.

The TMC vice president said that the significance of the July 21 meeting should not be compared with any other public meeting.

"Whoever possesses the voter ID card now is a result of that movement on July 21, 1993. Let us not compare that with any other ordinary meeting," Majumdar said.

Comparing the scheduled public meeting on November 29 with that held in 2014 on the same day, the TMC leader said, "High court has given permission or instructed the police to give permission for BJP's meeting. But this is not the first time. In 2014, on 29th November, BJP conducted a similar meeting where Amit Shah was also present. At that time, he was the BJP's national president."

"At that time Sidharth Nath Singh, observor of Bengal BJP gave that famous call Bhag Mukul Bhag and within two years Mukul fled to the BJP. We do not know that if there will be a repitition of similar thing," he added. (ANI)
