Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel has praised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Madhya Pradesh Government saying that the state has come out of the category of 'Bimaru Rajya' and has become self-reliant in the last 20 years.
Patel made the remark while addressing an election rally in Raipuriya in Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district on Wednesday in view of the forthcoming state assembly polls scheduled to be held this month. "I come from a state which got the guidance and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the last 20 years. Gujarat reached new heights of development under the double-engine government. Madhya Pradesh is also a state with unlimited possibilities. The benefit of a double engine government will give new heights to the development of Madhya Pradesh," Gujarat CM said. He added that it was the result of the efforts of the double-engine government that Madhya Pradesh was on its way to being among the three leading economic states in the country. "In the last 20 years, MP has come out of the category of 'Bimaru Rajya' and has become strong, prosperous and self-reliant. No one can forget Madhya Pradesh before 2003 when the state lacked all the basic facilities but today the situation has completely changed," Patel said. The 'Bimaru' acronym has been used to refer to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, to imply they have lagged in terms of economic growth, healthcare, and education He added that Madhya Pradesh established a special identity for itself in the last 20 years by achieving achievements like the construction of over 1 lakh kilometres of roads, an economic growth rate of over 16 per cent, providing tap water to more than 100,000 homes and producing 28,000 MW of electricity. Madhya Pradesh is one of the five states set to undergo polls in one phase on November 17 and the counting of votes will take place on December 3. Voters will choose legislators from 230 Assembly constituencies. (ANI)
