Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said that no other party comes close to BJP in addressing the concerns and problems of Northeastern people in the country.

Speaking to ANI, Kiren Rijiju said, "If the BJP comes to power, then all the concerns and important demands of the people of Mizoram will be settled as per the manifesto which we had released. The tribal culture, tribal customary laws etc are the priority of the BJP govt. Mizoram is safeguarded by the provisions of the Constitution. The BJP will ensure that each and every provision is implemented."

Kiren Rijiju further stated that Congress never treated the people of Mizoram in a fair manner.

"Congress, in the past, insulted the tribal people and made fun of the tribal headgear, dresses, and languages. They insulted the minorities, the Christians, and the tribals repeatedly. A senior Congress leader once said that Mizoram is a tiny insignificant state. They said that small states should speak less," he said.

Adding that PM Modi is the first Prime Minister to say that the border villages are the first villages and they must be given top priority, Kiren Rijiju said, "Congress and no other party can come close to the BJP in addressing concerns. They have insulted northeastern people. BJP under PM Modi has formed various agencies to protect the Northeastern people. We have seats for them in Delhi Police. Northeastern people are living in various parts of the country and their welfare and safety are our concerns."

Earlier Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed Union Minister Kiren Rijiju as election in charge for Mizoram Assembly polls scheduled to take place on November 7.

Mizoram is one of the five states going for elections. Polls will be held in Mizoram on November 7 and the counting of votes will be done on December 3.

In a 40-member Mizoram assembly, Mizo National Front bagged 26 seats with a vote share of 37.8 per cent to emerge victorious in the 2018 polls. Congress secured five seats and BJP won one seat. (ANI)
