Reacting to the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on Congress leaders in Rajasthan, Bharatiya Janata Party leader N Ramchander Rao on Saturday attacked the opposition party over their remark on ED raids, saying "some opposition leaders are worried that the ED and other agencies are exposing their corruption."
"Some opposition leaders are worried that the ED and other agencies are exposing their corruption. Now they are afraid and trying to politicise ED raids, trying to blame the government for that," he told ANI. "Instead of condemning their leaders' corruption, they are now trying to blame the investigation agencies," he added. Refuting the charges made by the opposition that the central agencies work at the beck and call of the BJP led central government he said, "Investigating agencies are independent; they are not under the control of any government and they are doing their jobs. Let the investigation agencies be allowed to do their jobs." He further added, "The Congress party and other leaders are politicising it (ED, CBI raids) only to prevent them from doing their official duties." On Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the properties of Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra and the party's candidate for the Mahua Assembly seat as part of a money laundering inquiry into an alleged examination paper leak case in the poll-bound state. The premises of Dotasara, a former Minister for School Education, in Sikar and Jaipur, apart from party candidates from Mahua seat in Dausa, Omprakash Hudla, and some others, were searched. The ED raids were criticised by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who accused the BJP at the centre of attempting to divert attention from the real issues facing the state. Former Rajasthan Deputy CM Sachin Pilot said the intent of the central agencies was questionable. "We have elections in Rajasthan in a few days. The Model Code of Conduct is in place here... The timing, objective and intent of the raids conducted by the central government agencies in Jaipur and other cities today is questionable and suspicious," Pilot said in a press conference on Thursday. The Rajasthan assembly polls are to be held on November 25 and the counting of votes will be done on December 3. (ANI)
