With an eye on the upcoming Assembly elections in five states, Union Home Minister Amit Shah called on BJP national president JP Nadda at the latter's residence in the national capital on Wednesday, sources said.

According to sources, the deliberations centred on the BJP's strategies for the upcoming electotal contests in Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram.

However, there was no official word from the party on what transpired at the meeting.

The Union Home Minister was pictured leaving Nadda's residence after the meeting.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Amit Shah attended the second meeting of the committee on 'One Nation One Election' headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind.

According to sources, the law commission members were called for the panel's second meeting and a presentation was made on the legal and constitutional aspects of 'One Nation One Election'.

During the meeting, all the legal and constitutional possibilities regarding the implementation of 'One Nation One Election' were discussed in detail.

While the first meeting of the committee at Jodhpur Officers' Hostel in Delhi lasted for about 45 minutes, the second meeting on Wednesday spanned about one and a half hours.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission earlier, Assembly polls in Mizoram will be held on November 7 while the one in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases -- on November 7 and 17.

BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh will go to polls on November 17 while Rajasthan and Telangana will poll for their assemblies on November 25 and 30.

The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the announcement of poll dates. The elections in the five will be a test of strength for the BJP and the Opposition and will also give a sense of the political headwinds going into the Lok Sabha elections next year. (ANI)
