Three Congress leaders, including two women leaders, have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls scheduled to be held next month.

The Congress leaders Asha Dohare and Anita Jain from Ashoknagar district and Rakesh Jain from Shivpuri district took membership of the BJP in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Gwalior on Tuesday.

Asha Dohare was the Congress candidate during the 2020 bypoll from Ashoknagar assembly seat, Anita Jain was the former leader of the Opposition in the Ashoknagar municipality and Rakesh Jain was the state Congress Secretary.

After taking the membership of the BJP, both the women leaders said that they were being neglected in the Congress for a long time. They worked very hard but did not get any results therefore they joined the BJP.

During this, Union Minister Scindia told the reporters that they (recently joined leaders) were not with them (BJP) for some reason but on Tuesday they joined them (BJP) back.

"I have had a familial and historical relation with both of these, Anita and Rakesh. I have said several times that I am not in politics, I am involved in 'Jan Sewa'. I try to build a relationship with my heart. For some reason, they were not with us. Today, they joined us back, we welcome them in BJP," Scindia said.

The Union Minister further said that he had full confidence that these leaders would fully support him and walked along with him to keep the flag of BJP flying high.

"I have full confidence that these leaders will fully support me and walk along with me to keep the flag of Bharatiya Janata Party flying high," he said.

Madhya Pradesh go to polls on November 17. Through the polls, the state will elect legislators from 230 Assembly constituencies. The election will be conducted in only one phase in the state and the counting will take place on December 3. (ANI)
