Chennai Tamil (Nadu) | October 24, 2023 12:16:24 PM IST
Three empty coaches of a suburban Electricity Multiple Unit (EMU) train derailed near Avadi railway station in Tamil Nadu's Chennai on Tuesday morning, hampering movement of nearly a dozen trains.

"Three coaches of an empty rake of a Suburban EMU train derailed at Avadi railway station while shunting from the Avadi EMU Car shed to mainline earlier in the morning," Southern Railway PRO said.

According to officials, the derailment incident forced the railways to delay, regulate, or reschedule nearly a dozen trains.

This included the diversion of 5 EMU trains operating towards Chennai Central, while 3 express trains including Vande Bharat (Chennai - Mysore), Shatabdhi (Chennai - Mysore), and Kovai Express (Chennai - Coimbatore) were regulated near Ambattur railway station.

Similarly, three trains including Saptagiri Express, Brindavan Express, and Double Decker Express origin were also rescheduled due to the derailment incident.

As per officials, the suburban Uttara Pradesh line (towards Chennai Central) was affected while there was a minor disruption on the Express mainline owing to an overhead equipment (OHE) cable glitch.

Divisional Railway Manager and his team of Senior officials are on the spot.

"Restoration work is in full swing, the main line has been restored for traffic and Express trains have commenced journeys. EMU services are also diverted to run on the fast line," officials said.

The officials further informed that the suburban line restoration work is in progress and traffic will be restored in a few hours. (ANI)
