The Election Commission of India (ECI) in consultation with the State Government of Nagaland, has designated IAS officer Vyasan R as the new Chief Electoral Officer for the state.

An official order from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer states that in the exercise of powers conferred by subsection (1) of section 13A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 (43 of 1950), the appointment of Vyasan R as the Chief Electoral Officer comes into effect from the date he assumes charge and will remain in force until further orders.

"Vyasan R takes over this crucial role, replacing V Shashank Shekhar, IAS," it stated.

Vyasan R will immediately cease to hold and hand over any charges or responsibilities he may have been holding under the Government of Nagaland before taking up the position of Chief Electoral Officer, the release stated.

During his tenure as the Chief Electoral Officer, Vyasan R will not undertake any additional charges or responsibilities under the Government of Nagaland, except for the designation as the Secretary to the Government in charge of the Election Department in the State Secretariat. (ANI)
