Ahead of the state assembly elections, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh filed his nomination papers from Rajnandgaon constituency on Monday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended Raman Singh's nomination filing.

Apart from Raman Singh, Bharat Lal Verma, Vinod Khandekar and Geeta Ghasi Sahu also filed their nominations from the Dongargaon, Dongargarh and Khujji assembly constituencies respectively.

After attending the nomination filing, Shah also addressed the "Parivartan Sankalp Mahasabha" in Rajnandgaon.

"Today I filed my nomination as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate. We are fortunate that Amit Shah came to give us blessings to all the electoral candidates from Dongargaon, Dongargarh, Khujji and Rajnandgaon. He was present while filing the nomination along with thousands of workers," Raman Singh said speaking to ANI after filing his nomination.

Raman Singh is a six-term MLA and has won from the Rajnandagon seat thrice.

Speaking to ANI, Raman Singh expressed confidence in the BJP's victory in the state assembly elections and said, "BJP will emerge victorious in all the four assembly constituencies."

"The BJP is going to win in the Chhattisgarh elections and move forward. People are excited about the polls. We will win in all the four assembly constituencies," Raman Singh said.

The Congress has fielded the Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Chairman Girish Dewangan to take on the former Chief Minister in the Rajnandgaon assembly constituency.

Speaking about his rival Congress candidate, Singh said, "In the next 15 days people will ask who is Girish Dewangan. It will take 15 days to answer them. By that time elections will start."

Chhattisgarh will go to polls in two phases- November 7 and November 17. (ANI)
