Himachal government to reward Asian Games participants from state

Youth Services and Sports Minister Vikramaditya Singh said on Friday that the Himachal government is determined to encourage the budding sports talents of Himachal and has proposed cash prizes worth Rs 1 crore for all the players from Himachal who won medals and participated in the Asian Games recently held in Hangzhou, China.

The Sports Minister further said that six players from Himachal were among the medal winners in the Asian Games held from September 29 to October 8, 2023, while seven other players participated in different games.

In the women's category Kabaddi, Ritu Negi, Pushpa and Kumari Sushma from Sirmaur, Kumari Nidhi Sharma from Bilaspur and Kumari Jyoti from Solan were a part of the winning squad, said Vikramaditya Singh.

Similarly, in the men's category Kabaddi, Vishal Bhardwaj from Una was a member of the gold medal-winning team, he added.

Singh announced that all these six players will be given a cash prize of Rs. 15 lakh each.

He also announced an incentive amount of Rs one lakh each to the players from the state who represented the country in the women's handball team.

The Youth Services and Sports Minister confirmed their names as Deeksha Kumari, Priyanka Thakur and Shalini Thakur from Bilaspur district, and Nidhi Sharma, Mitali Sharma, Bhavana and Menka from Solan district.

He further said that the Youth Services and Sports Department will provide Rs 63 lakh as an award to three players - Renuka Thakur, Vikas Thakur and Ashish Kumar who won medals in the Commonwealth Games in the year 2022. (ANI)
