Kolkata: Police arrests three persons for scamming and looting Rs 1.15 lakh

Three persons involved in scamming and looting Rs 1.15 lakh from an individual were apprehended in Kolkata, said police.

The accused have been identified as Md. Mintu (40), Md. Rafik (27) and Ismail Sk (22), said police.

The officials further informed that the incident dates back to August 31, 2023, when the three accused convinced the complainant, identified as Ajoy Kumar Sah, to deliver Rs 1.15 lakh (in cash) in exchange for a large number of foreign currency notes, and at the agreed meet-up spot, the accused fled away with the cash (Rs 1.15 lakh) brought by Ajoy Kumar Sah after handing him a bag containing bundles of ordinary papers cut in the size of currency notes.

A case was registered into the matter on September 1, 2023, in Kolkata's Taratala Police Station under sections 420/120B of IPC, said police.

The officials further informed that CCTV footage from the area was analysed and on the basis of credible information and with the help of technology, the three accused were apprehended.

The accused were interrogated and pursuant to their statements, cash Rs 1.13 lakh was recovered and seized from them, said officials.

The police further informed that the accused will be in Police Custody till October 16, 2023. (ANI)
