As the poll bugle was sounded in Chhattisgarh with the announcement of election dates for the assembly polls, Congress leader Pawan Khera on Thursday launched a scathing attack at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stating that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is a part of the BJP alliance.

"ED is a part of the BJP's alliance. Why is the ED not going to Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat?" Khera asked reporters in Chhattisgarh's Raipur.

The statement came after the central agency arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh earlier in connection with the alleged excise policy scam case.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate conducted a day-long raid at Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan's residence.

However, speaking about the raids on his residence, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan said that ED didn't show any FIR on which the raids were conducted.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced that the first phase of polling for 20 seats in Chhattisgarh will be held on November 7, and the remaining 70 seats in Chhattisgarh will go to polls on November 17.

Polls will be held in Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 23 and Telangana on November 30.

The counting of votes will take place on December 3 in all the states.

Of the five states, polling in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases. The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the announcement of poll dates.

The elections to five states are crucial as they are being held months before the Lok Sabha elections in April-May next year.

Congress and BJP are the key players in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Telangana is expected to witness a triangular contest between the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress and BJP. (ANI)
