Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday attacked the Centre and Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh, saying that the BJP "snatched the rights" given by the Congress government to the people and farmers have not been given their due.

Addressing a rally here, she accused the BJP of atrocities against the tribals and alleged the BJP governments in the state did not work for 18 years and started making announcements 18 months before the polls.

She said the UPA government led by Congress brought MNREGA and the Food Security Act and empowered the panchayats.

"The rights that Congress gave, BJP took them away one by one. The powers of sarpanches were curtailed, lands were taken away, proper price was not paid for crops. In 18 years of BJP rule, Madhya Pradesh is number one for atrocities against tribals, they are not getting their rights related to forests, the maximum instances of disappearance of girl child are in Madhya Pradesh, about 17 incidents of rape take place daily, youth are not getting employment," she said.

The Congress leader said Congress wants to empower people.

"This has been the tradition and principle of the Congress party. We want the property...to be in your hands. We want you to become strong, that you get your power. When you hear election speeches of different parties think of one thing - will they give your power in your hands?" she asked.

Referring to the issue of migration, Priyanka Gandhi said that people are forced to migrate due to a lack of employment opportunities.

"Migration happens because when there is no rural employment, when there is no employment in your area, in your village, in your district, today migration is a big problem here," she said.

Madhya Pradesh will go to the polls on November 17. The state has 230 assembly constituencies.

Of the five states going to the polls in November, BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh. (ANI)
